The Master in Teaching Visual Arts in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education is the result of a collaboration between two Organic Units at the University of Minho, the School of Architecture, Art and Design (EAAD) and the Institute of Education (IE). The course will open its first edition in the 2024/2025 academic year.

With a view to the academic and professional training of teachers and people interested in a teaching career, this master's degree seeks to train for reflection and subsequent research into teaching practice, from a contemporary perspective of Art Education, based on innovative methodologies and sustained by up-to-date concepts. They should be able to consider and interpret contemporary artistic, cultural, economic and political issues, demonstrating knowledge of the subject(s) they teach, critically reflecting on their social value and the relationships they establish with other areas of knowledge, in a relationship of openness to different areas of knowledge and building a critical and multidisciplinary view of knowledge and reality. They must also be able to see the education system, the school and the classroom as spaces for ethical and civic intervention, inclusive training and social intervention, within the framework of education for democratic citizenship.
