CAAA - Centro para os Assuntos da Arte e Arquitectura | Guimarães
The exhibition ‘Gramáticas Pardas’ by
Carla Cruz and Cláudia Lopes, curated by Ana Anacleto, is on display at CAAA -
Centre for Art and Architecture Affairs, until 31 December 2025.
The Artists | Since 2020, Carla Cruz and
Claúdia Lopes have been developing a joint reflection on the notion of time and
the relatively ephemeral relationship we have with it, in contrast to the
persistence of objects, places and geologies. Their projects manifest themes
such as circularity, marks and fragments, sedimentations, landscapes — natural,
constructed, transformed and fictional — as well as intersecting temporalities,
ends of the world and other speculative prefigurations. These are
simultaneously plastic and conceptual, with a common interest in malleable and
organic materials and non-urban affective territories. Between 2021 and 2023,
they were part of an exploratory project in the Regoufe tungsten mines,
decommissioned almost 75 years ago, which resulted in exhibitions (‘Pedras’ at
the Monastery of Arouca and the Trilobite Museum; “Escombreiras” at the
Ferreira da Silva Laboratory, Porto) and publications (“Medula” and “Escombreiras”
i2ADS). In 2021, they held the solo exhibition “Sedimentos” at the Júlio Dinis
House Museum, Ovar; in 2023, the solo exhibition ‘Superfície’ at the Extéril
Gallery, Porto, and the solo exhibition “Inerte” at Espaço UM in Guimarães; in
2024, ‘do subterrâneo’ exhibition at the Nuno Centeno Gallery, Porto, and
participated with the installation ‘Superfície’ at the Bienal de Trás-os-Montes
in Macedo de Cavaleiros; and in 2025 they conceived the performance ‘Ar’ in
residence at the Escola de Maceira and presented at the Bienal da Maia 2025.
