Galeria da Garagem Avenida - Guimarães
On 2 December, starting at 10:30 a.m., the Galeria da Garagem Avenida
will host an open class entitled ‘Beyond the skin: an interspecies approach to
a life as a cyborg,’ led by artist Henrique Palmeirim Lázaro.
Biography | Henrique Palmeirim Lázaro (b. Lisbon 1995) graduated in
Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and holds a
Master's degree in Fine Arts from Goldsmiths University of London as a
Gulbenkian scholarship holder. He is, above all, an artist and creative
technologist - although currently an exhibition designer at arebyte. He is also
a carpenter, painter, sculptor, CNC and 3D printing operator, digital modeller,
programmer, VJ, game designer, writer, among other roles that support his work
and artistic practice. In his studio, he orbits epistemological themes in
opposition to the norms established by the legacy of the Enlightenment. His
artistic work celebrates a fluidity of bodies, species and beliefs, playing
with their meanings or lack thereof.
“In this session, we reflect on different forms of immersion,
distinguishing between environments that merely surround the audience and those
that actually respond to their presence. We talk about how immersion can go
beyond the sensory effect to become relationship, co-presence and implication –
being inside, not just in front. We explored the difference between looking at
art and art looking back: situations in which the audience ceases to be mere
observers and becomes part of the event itself, participating in a shared
ecology where each presence matters."
