EAAD - Campus de Azurém - Capela
The School of Architecture, Art and Design (EAAD) of
the University of Minho will host the "PhD in Architecture Day" on
July 3rd. The scientific meeting will take place at the Capela (0.07) of EAAD,
located at the Azurém Campus in Guimarães, bringing together professors,
researchers, and students.
The opening session is scheduled for 9:00 AM and will
feature institutional opening remarks by Professor Paulo Cruz, President of
EAAD, Professor João Cabeleira, Deputy Director of Lab2PT, and Professor
Andreia Garcia, Director of the PhD Program in Architecture.
The event's scientific program is divided into two
seminars by external guest speakers and the presentation of the Interim
Evaluations of PhD students for the 2025/2026 academic year. The first seminar,
at 9:10 AM, will be led by Pedro Martins (DArq, CeArq-TD, University of
Coimbra), under the theme "Investigar fazendo. Teoria e prática na
investigação em arquitetura" (Research by doing. Theory and practice in architectural research). In the afternoon, at 2:00 PM, Mariana Salvador (DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte)
will present the lecture "Traçar a Paisagem Alimentar de Lisboa: uma
história cartográfica da cidade" (Mapping Lisbon's Foodscape: a
cartographic history of the city).
Throughout the Interim Evaluation sessions, PhD
students Parasto Bagheri, Rodrigo Campos Chiesse, António Miguel Portela Pires
Fernandes, António Fernando Rodrigues Pinto, Sajid Alwal, and Folasade Nleweoha
will present their thesis projects. The discussion panels will intersect
architecture with contemporary strategic fields, such as automation, robotic
fabrication, housing sustainability, biophilic and parametric design, and
healthcare facility planning.
The event is open to the academic community and to
anyone interested in the intersection of theory, practice, and technological
innovation in the field of architecture.
