Pedro Ferreira Martins, a 3rd-year student in the Bachelor’s degree in Product Design at the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho (EAAD), has been selected to represent Portugal in the prestigious international project "Weaving Futures: A Cross-Cultural Journey in Sustainable Design". The event will take place in Thailand from October 5 to 25, 2026.
Promoted by the EUNIC Thailand cluster, the project brings together European and Thai undergraduate design students, establishing an international platform focused on sustainability, cultural heritage, and responsible design. Portugal's participation in this initiative is made possible through Camões, I.P., a founding member of the cluster. In total, the initiative brings together representatives from nine European countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Portugal) and Thailand, fostering dialogue and cooperation between different creative traditions and cultures.The EAAD student's journey will be divided into three main phases of immersion and co-creation in Thailand:- An intercultural workshop in Bangkok;
- A cultural and technical immersion experience in Chiang Mai;
- A creative residency in Bangkok.
This hands-on methodology aims to put students in direct contact with local artistic heritage and traditional craftsmanship, challenging them to integrate these elements into innovative contemporary design proposals that share a firm commitment to environmental responsibility.The final results of the collaborative work developed by Pedro Ferreira Martins and the other international participants will be showcased to the public on November 20 and 21, 2026, as part of the official program of the 13th edition of Galleries Nights Bangkok.
