The presentation session of the publication Álvaro Siza’s Lordelo do Ouro Cooperative Building: Preliminary Studies towards the Conservation of a Masterpiece in Need of Recognition will be held on MArch 14 at 14h30 at Auditorium 1 of EAAD.
The publications gathers studies developed during within
a course unit of the 5th year Master Degree EAAD 2017/18 and
2018/19, with the aim to demonstrate the qualities of the original project,
i.e. the organization of space and the material and construction features of
this forgotten work. Subsequently, even upon specific considerations about the
need to take into account the revitalization of the institution along with that
of the building, possible scenarios for a conservation plan are presented.

The
launch session hold by Professor Paulo Cruz President EAAD, jointly with
the author and student Silvy Dias, will also gladly welcome the
interventions by João
Pedro Xavier Diretor of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, and
by architect and researcher Magda Seifert of the Publisher Circo de
Ideias.
João Pedro Xavier is
an architect and full professor at the Faculty of Architecture, University
of Porto (FAUP), where he received his degree in 1985, his Ph.D. in
Architecture in 2005.
He
worked in Álvaro Siza's office from 1986 to 1999. At the same time, he established
his own practice as an architect.
Xavier
is a member of CEAU’s research teams – Architecture: Theory, Project, History
(ATPH) – and – Digital Fabrication Laboratory (DFL). The relationship between
architecture and mathematics, especially perspective, is his main research
interest. He is the author of the books Perspectiva, perspectiva
acelerada e contraperspectiva (Perspective, accelerated perspective
and retarded perspective) and Sobre as origens da perspectiva em Portugal (About
the origins of perspective in Portugal).
He
is correspondent editor of the “Nexus Network Journal”, and Council member of
the "European Association for Architectural Education" (EAAE).
Magda Seifert (Lisbon, 1980) founder and director of Circo de Ideias, cultural association
where she coordinates, since 2008, several editions, conferences and exhibition
projects. Director of the Porto Design Biennale, integrating the team of esad-idea, Research in Design and Art.
Architect graduated from the University School of Arts of Coimbra (2006).
Between 2014 and 2016, she collaborated with the Canadian Centre for
Architecture in the transfer of Álvaro Siza's archive to this institution. In
2015-17, with Luís Tavares Pereira and Bruno Baldaia, she curated the 5th edition of Habitar Portugal. Between 2010 and 2014 he was part of the team of
the Professional Order of Architects - Northern Regional Section, acting as an
advisor to the President's office.
