Students from other higher education institutions
1. I was a PhD student at another institution and I want to complete my PhD at UMinho. How can I do this?
- If the course you attended was a Tutorial course, i.e. without a doctoral course, in order to enrol as a student at UMinho you must formalise your application for Plan B, within the deadlines set out in the School Calendar. You must have been enrolled on the doctoral programme for at least three years.
- Under the terms of Article 185(1) of the RAUM, the student cannot apply for the exams before the three years of enrolment in the PhD in Architecture (180 ECTS) have elapsed.
2. I was a PhD student at another institution where I had already completed my doctoral programme. I want to complete my PhD at UMinho. How can I do this?
- In order to continue your PhD course at UMinho, you can apply for Plan A or Plan B within the deadlines set out in the School Calendar. Once you have been admitted and enrolled, you can request credit for the course units you successfully completed at another institution. In order to take public exams, you must have been enrolled for at least two academic years.
3. I've already completed a doctoral programme at another higher education institution. I now intend to defend my thesis.
- According to number 11 of Article 185. of the RAUM, those who believe they fulfil the conditions for access to the study cycle leading to a doctoral degree may request the presentation of a thesis in a public defence, without enrolment for the study cycle and without supervision, paying the charges defined in the table of charges in force for that purpose.
