20/07/2026 - 24/07/2026
The 2026 edition of "Verão no Campus" (Summer on Campus) runs from July 20th to 24th, inviting 9th-grade and high school students to live a unique experience at the University!
Its goal is to promote collaboration and mutual trust through a diverse set of recreational and educational initiatives. With the constant support of UMinho professors, researchers, and students—acting as mentors or "UMinho Godparents"—participants have the opportunity to explore different scientific fields, combining knowledge with entertainment and vocational guidance.

EAAD Activity:
Since the dawn of humanity, we have shaped handfuls of earth. Mud, loam, and clay accompany and tell our history. It was on clay that the first written records were accidentally engraved after a fire. With it, we built shelters, modeled vessels, and represented ourselves and our cosmogonies. Today, it remains a link between architecture, art, and design. Come explore the potential of this moldable material and its contemporary applications. Create with us from the earth.

The School of Architecture, Art and Design (EAAD) of the University of Minho will host the "PhD in Architecture Day" on July 3rd. The scientific meeting will take place at the Capela (0.07) of EAAD, located at the Azurém Campus in Guimarães, bringing together professors, researchers, and students.
The opening session is scheduled for 9:00 AM and will feature institutional opening remarks by Professor Paulo Cruz, President of EAAD, Professor João Cabeleira, Deputy Director of Lab2PT, and Professor Andreia Garcia, Director of the PhD Program in Architecture. The event's scientific program is divided into two seminars by external guest speakers and the presentation of the Interim Evaluations of PhD students for the 2025/2026 academic year. The first seminar, at 9:10 AM, will be led by Pedro Martins (DArq, CeArq-TD, University of Coimbra), under the theme "Investigar fazendo. Teoria e prática na investigação em arquitetura" (Research by doing. Theory and practice in architectural research). In the afternoon, at 2:00 PM, Mariana Salvador (DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte) will present the lecture "Traçar a Paisagem Alimentar de Lisboa: uma história cartográfica da cidade" (Mapping Lisbon's Foodscape: a cartographic history of the city). Throughout the Interim Evaluation sessions, PhD students Parasto Bagheri, Rodrigo Campos Chiesse, António Miguel Portela Pires Fernandes, António Fernando Rodrigues Pinto, Sajid Alwal, and Folasade Nleweoha will present their thesis projects. The discussion panels will intersect architecture with contemporary strategic fields, such as automation, robotic fabrication, housing sustainability, biophilic and parametric design, and healthcare facility planning. The event is open to the academic community and to anyone interested in the intersection of theory, practice, and technological innovation in the field of architecture.

The final-year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design at the University of Minho have reached a decisive moment. The Industrial Design course unit represents the culmination of years of work, bridging academia and the business ecosystem.
During the second semester, our students integrated into real company routines through internships. The challenge? To develop innovative products under the scientific guidance of EAAD (School of Architecture, Art and Design). Built on a close relationship with the industry, this course unit provides direct contact with real-world challenges, integration into work routines, and an in-depth understanding of corporate reality. It promotes a critical application of design project methodology and the creation of innovative, relevant, and well-founded solutions.

Public Defenses
Over the next few days, these innovative projects will be presented and discussed publicly. Come meet the next generation of designers and the solutions they have created for the future of the industry!

We extend a special thank you to all our partner companies.

During the second semester of the current academic year, the course units "Conservation and Technology Studio" and "Pathology and Rehabilitation Seminar" from the 4th year selected the pedagogical complex of the School of Engineering at the Azurém Campus—specifically including the Hall Central (Nave), comprising Buildings 1 and 2—as the subject for architectural rehabilitation and adaptation design exercises. Designed by architect Bartolomeu Costa Cabral, these buildings represent a highly relevant case study. This is due not only to their original architectural quality and the role they have played in the life of the institution, but also to the current need for several interventions. These could be configured as a whole and understood as an integrated building conservation plan. A selection of the developed work is now on display in the very space that was studied. This exploratory analysis aimed to identify issues and, from a pedagogical standpoint, test the design of general or detailed solutions as part of a set of interconnected hypotheses.

The exhibition will be open to the public until June 30th at the Hall Central de Azurém (Nave).
