Garagem Avenida, Guimarães
As part of the Manuel Botelho Territory Exhibition, a
set of events is proposed to highlight the closing session: Guided Tour of the
Exhibition, Presentation of the Manuel Botelho Territory Book and a Round Table
and Debate.
The closing session will take place on May 18, 2022, at Galeria da
Garagem Avenida, Guimarães, starting at 5 pm.
17.00h | Guided Tour of the Manuel Botelho Territory Exhibition, with
Duarte Belo, Bruno Baldaia
The two different perspectives, which intersect, and constitute the
“body” of the Território Manuel Botelho exhibition, will be presented and
commented on: on one hand, the documentary photographic record, produced by
Duarte Belo (photographer, architect and former student of Manuel Botelho) ,
the route through the territory of built spaces and objects of the architect as
well as the spaces of his daily life; on the other hand, through the models
made by the EAAD-UM grantees (Bruno Castro, João Costa and Rui Ferreira), of
drawings, sketches and photographs, 7 decisive works are presented that allow
us to understand and characterize the production of Atelier Manuel Botelho
throughout of time.
17.30h | Presentation of the Manuel Botelho Territory Book, with Duarte
Belo
The Manuel Botelho Territory Book is edited by the Landscape Museum with
the support of the Landscape, Heritage and Territory Laboratory (Lab2PT), the
School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho (EAAD-UM),
the Faculty of Architecture of the University of do Porto (FAUP) and the
Marques da Silva Foundation (FIMS). This book documents the visits to the
works, the house, and the office in a photographic record. Includes texts by
Architect Duarte Belo and 5 texts by Architect Manuel Botelho selected for this
publication, accompanied by photographs of the architect himself.
Quoting Duarte Belo: “With Manuel Botelho, his students, we were led by
the discovery of design, by the almost limitless possibilities of architectural
form, the game of volumes, by the complex spatial relationships with which we
have to deal. Most of us there entered an unknown, beautiful, difficult and
appealing world. We were carried away by the incessant search for an idea of clarity, of
absence of noise, of immense nobility, even solemnity, of the architectural
work, where there was no lack of questioning, elements of discontinuity, the
intentional disturbance of the obvious order”.
After the presentation of the Book, an agreement will be formalized and
signed that determines the delivery of the library by Architect Manuel Botelho
to the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho.
18.00h | Roundtable on
Culture and Context, with João Cabeleira (moderator), Filipa Guerreiro, Luís
Tavares Pereira, Mariana Carvalho and Paolo Melis
Within the scope of the Manuel Botelho Territory Exhibition, the
roundtable brings together 5 architects with different ties to Manuel Botelho -
former students, teachers, collaborators and colleagues. Through these
different approaches and views we will be able to scrutinize the social and
cultural context that influenced and determined the formation of the Architect.
This event is part of a series of debates around the life and work of Architect
Manuel Botelho. The first debate took place at FAUP on the topic of Teaching,
where different views of Manuel Botelho as a teacher were presented. After this
exhibition, other debates will be presented around the relationship between
thought and project (DARQ-UC) and proposals for a cartography of his work
(FIMMS).
The entire community is invited to participate in this closing session
of the “Território Manuel Botelho” exhibition. Entry is free.
